How does it feel to root against your country (or to express satisfaction with the result) based on a presumption that player(s) don’t respect your country?

Saw the pk highlights. Hard to watch a player laugh when missing a pk that ultimately contributed to the loss. She was initially upset visibly but then laughed. Never know if the laugh was forced to try to keep the pressure off the next player. Could also have been kind of a wry laugh, like hey the soccer gods are against us in this tournament (or against her maybe). I have seen people laugh when most would cry. Death of a family member for example. Everyone is different. We don’t know what she really felt in that moment. What was 💔 was Naeher’s expression. She had one clear save. She scored her kick. She had that very athletic almost save. She looked like someone shot her dog right in front of her. It was pretty awful.

How does it feel to root against your country (or to express satisfaction with the result) based on a presumption that player(s) don’t respect your country? …Seems kinda f-ed up to me. I wanted the USWNT to go further because I know they mean a lot to other people but also had no love for the team because of how polarizing some of their players were. I guess that put me in an apathetic camp not a root against camp. When you ask how does it feel, a couple of parents briefly talked about it this weekend on the sideline and had a similar thought, most don't care that much. It is more about apathy than rooting against. It is a non event for them. In other words I think it may be high on the list of things you care about but for me it is pretty low. I was more concerned about what was for dinner that night. For example, when I saw Rap shank her PK and then have the weird laugh I thought it was fitting. I then swiped up on Tik Tok and watched something else. Hardly thought of it until I saw the thread here.

My country competing in the WC is an event I’ll wake up at 5am for. Was disappointed three players didn’t even force the keeper to stop their shot.

I tend to think if Macario and Swanson are not out with injuries, this team easily wins the group and in the quarters. That plus all the other injuries really set this team back a little for this WC.
I think we will see a completely different team at the Olympics next year in attitude and makeup. Will be curious to see how the new coach handles things. Hopefully the process to find a new coach starts quickly. I would say that person needs to be in place before at least the She Believes Cup next year.

Lots of the comments on this video are absolute fire. Worth reading. Agreed. I wish I knew how to post the video like Soccerhouse did, instead of posting a link. One thing I liked that they said and I have been saying since the first game, is put Julie Ertz back in her number 6 position. She would help the midfield immensely and control the tempo of the game for the USA. ETA: Unrelated but interesting... I saw an article a week or so ago that stated approx. 20% of all the players in the World Cup either played or are currently playing college soccer in the United States. That's 1 out of every 5 players have extended their soccer career here in our country. That's alot! A Jamaican-American friend of mine said the same thing and sent me the following list of where many of the Jamaican players, attended college and played... U of Florida U of South Florida Florida State U Notre Dame U of Tennessee Ohio State U (2) Rutgers (2) U of Central Florida Boston College Washington State U UNC-Wilmington U of West Florida Navarro College And let's not forget CF (Chamblee)

How does it feel to root against your country (or to express satisfaction with the result) based on a presumption that player(s) don’t respect your country? this comment gives me "kneeling is disrespectful to our troops" vibes it's possible to be patriotic or american and dislike players/teams/coaches etc I'm a US citizen now, and I woke up specifically in the hopes the USA would lose. And I *feel fine about that because there is nothing wrong with that. Speaking to your point, there are many reasons people root against this team, and they're all relevant/valid

I wasn't actively rooting against them, but like others in here it was way down my list of things i cared about. i was indifferent, didn't watch it, and didn't care to watch it. I caught "highlights" (not much there on those), and that was it. I had several reason for not watching. First the unpatriotic players that are more a distraction than good players, and I think this coach is no good, so them losing is the fastest way for a coaching change, and also the fastest way to shakeup the makeup of the team. The women are going to end up going through what the men had to go through a few years ago. It will work out for the better for them long term.

For me it's simple, we did not have 'the eye of the tiger', period. And yes, everyone manages losing differently. But how many times do you have an opportunity to play in the world cup, much less for a three-peat. Most of the players did not appear to me to have that hunger, that edge, except for Horan for a short spell during the Netherlands match toward the end - 'that look!'. Leave no doubt! Leave nothing to chance!
How does a coach actually come out and say the he feels they did everything right? How does he say that he would do everything the same way given the chance to do it over again? You just lost in the quarters of the world cup coach. Maybe, just maybe your path and preparation wasn't quite right.
And now that we're not the best in the world, maybe we can get back home and do the work. Luck is preparedness meeting opportunity. We earned those results.
Train. Train more. Train harder. Train better!

Tell me that again in a few years when you realize that is all she does. There are people that know this person (supposedly she is a teacher), and speaks English and writes English just fine in other venues. This is just a tired old shtick where she does nothing but insult folks instead of having any substance in any of her posts.

The USWNT team played the “boom ball” that club soccer people deride. Despite having loads of talent, they were coached to play garbage ball. Let’s turn the page and find a new manager and get some more of the young players overseas where competition is mandatory. Having a team comprised of players whose #1 priority is to play for the name on the front would be fine as well.

Too many people- especially in the media, academia, and at big corporations- think Twitter actually speaks for the majority of people. News flash- it doesn't! About 5% of the population is truly active on Twitter, and it is heavily over-indexed with those on the far left & far right of the political spectrum. The vast, vast majority falls into the huge middle that doesn't really care and has better things to do with their life. I think I represent the feelings of a big chunk of America as far as the USWNT goes- I was pulling hard for them to win AS A TEAM, and for our country, even though I don't agree with most of the individual politics that have almost overtaken the team over the past several years. I truly think most people can and do separate that- if they pay attention to the political side of it at all- but Twitter, the media, etc. don't want us to believe that. That's too nuanced of a view for them to handle. Everything has to be more divisive and explosive- you are either 100% on board with this team, politics and all, or you're a woman-hating neocon neanderthal who pulls against their own country to prove a political point. So many say they wish we could put politics aside and unite as a country. The sad thing is, most of the people that say that actually mean they want you to start agreeing with them and seeing things their way- that's the only way they will accept us all "uniting".

I can't believe that at our highest level, they can't practice what they have preached about in youth soccer for years!!!

And yet they did not learn the most important lesson of boom ball--can't play a vertical pass onto a vertical run. One has to be diagonal. If you going to employ poor tactics with the more talented team, at least coach them to employee the tactics correctly.

I'm on the apathy side also. Have only watched one game in the tournament. Saw plenty of clips of comical goals that shouldn't have happened in a "best in the world" tournament.
Until the US women represent the red+white+blue they're wearing with PRIDE, they can be as divisive as the federation lets them, I'm not going to watch/support them. My teen daughter wasn't very interested either.
Last year's Men's world cup last year was amazing though, she will remember it for a long time.

A lot of intelligent people would say that that making a sacrifice to change your country for what you perceive to be the better is the most patriotic thing you can do. Just because you disagree with them doesn't make them unpatriotic.

My question is it better for the people to just launch back into personal attacks against everyone that attacks them on this board or try to get you to acknowledge that your behavior is wrong on this thread. You all sound like Donald Trump talking about a political opponent, someone I assume you think has awful temperament and attitudes against others as I do, and my guess is you all think you are better than that. The comments like the ones below are fun? That counts for all the "likes" on other personal attacks in this thread. |me tink u follow uswnt like nutjob| |me tinks u like drug addict| |me tinks u start foaming at mouth| Fun for who?

There's definitely arguments that some causes fought for can make the lives of many of your fellow Americans worse.

Not really pertaining to the USWNT specifically but to life in general:
“And I went down to the demonstration To get my fair share of abuse Singing, "We're gonna vent our frustration If we don't we're gonna blow a 50-amp fuse"
You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes well you just might find You get what you need”
