COnflict with SCCL events? I looked at the schedule and couldn't find a single SCCL game after 12/13 that wasn't in 2021. My question is does SC (or AL) have a big enough pool to have 2 games per age group? Most of the girls GA pools have 50 players. IMO they really should cap the pool at 44 players (including 4 keepers). More than that and players won't get a whole half to showcase their abilities, and that should be the goal of the program. That’s a good question-didn’t think about that. The other question is will we be in shut down mode again by then?

It’s a Ga, Sc, NC and possibly Fl event. Ufa is hosting an SCCL scrimmage event on that date to gear up for SCCL cup.

I'd pick an ODP event over a scrimmage event. SCCL Cup isn't for another 4 weeks after that.

It’s not just scrimmages I guess it’s also a college combine type thing too. Not exactly sure as details have been sketchy but that’s expected as Ufa and gsa are supposedly hosting.

Thanks, same here (girls). We did receive our training schedule, but nothing about events/games. Kostas told us at last Friday’s practice at Arizona. That’s where the info about Columbia on 12/20, and then the Winston Salem, NC and Memphis, TN trips in January came too. He also said that they were talking with Adidas and Nike about replacing all the kits and getting newer nicer gear compared to that old Score stuff that falls apart after one wash. That and the playing philosophy of the 4/3/3, playing & building from the back were going to be a lot of the main focuses.

The lack of communication this year is shocking and it can't be blamed on covid if you tell one set of parents something and don't relay it to the rest of the program? Georgia Soccer had a slow year to start off fresh from their "rebuild"...start off on the right foot. It seems that every decision that has been made to this point is on the wrong foot....

Agreed. Given the proximity to Christmas, there needs to be announcements of "we are working on this for this weekend and that for that weekend, so save the dates". They can always roll it back due to COVID and everyone will understand.
They are basically "springing" things on people a bit, whereas the better approach is not to wait until things are finalized but to tell people what is in the works. A great example would be SCCL crossover weekend nonsense melodrama that happened last year. The communication lines for youth soccer are garbage.

Parent meeting during ODP training. Kostas mentioned the 12/20 one day event in SC and two other events in NC and TN mid January. He also mentioned ODP going Nike or Adidas which is good news. Bad news is inevitable conflicts with SCCL. No idea why this is only verbal, nothing is officially posted on the ODP website, between that and how SCCL Cup was announced, almost looks like ODP and SCCL are competing for worst website award.

I agree with this 100%. I don't know how the communication could have been worse than prior years coming from GA Soccer related to ODP, but this year practices are being announced or changed 2 days before it is scheduled to happen for a specific age group . Many of those around metro Atl can flex, but can you imagine being from Columbus or Savannah??? For all the talk of "we will make changes", the inability to communicate speaks loudly. Marketing, communication, caring about your brand, caring about participants need to be front and center and are absent.

Is that good enough? This is youth soccer in general, not just US club or SCCL or ODP just never understood why most soccer professionals -otherwise good in what they do-, struggle to properly communicate basic and important information (with very few exceptions).

There are more players and teams in ODP than in recent years. Is everyone going to be invited to all events? Doubtful. Not to sound like picking or choosing weekends, but does a player blow his/her chance if not available for an event he or she is assigned to? Can they make it up at another event or that would be too many kids next event? Covid aside it's not like there has been enough warning given to plan ahead.

Kosta specifically said that players that go to NC in January would not be expected to go TN the following weekend. It was pretty much choose the weekend that works best and they’ll roster for that. Sunday Dec 20th in Columbia is to get as many kids as possible on the field. Getting a game or two under their belt in that one day event. Ga ODP and GA Soccer are being completely rebuilt with the SCCL exodus and the Daniels leaving. It’s almost as bad as the transition at the White House right now.

I know JumpJumpKeep311 and I are both at the same club (same level I think?) and his team has been told SCCL Cup is mandatory (by DoC?) and our team hasn't even heard about it.
Also, we have not had any parent meeting at ODP and will miss training this Friday with a tournament this weekend and on 12/4 with a showcase.
As it is, just last week is the first time our coach has even asked about the spring (U15).

I don't understand how SCCL cup for the older age groups is mandatory. The fall season ends in early December, and SCCL Cup is in January. If the kids have conflicts, then they have conflicts. What is SCCL going to do if a team cannot roster a team? What is a club going to do if kids cannot play?
Personally, I would opt for ODP games as opposed to SCCL Cup games in January. I'm just glad I don't have to make that decision.

I asked our team manager about SCCL Cup (SCCL -C Level) and our team manager said we could do it if we wanted to, however, since you have to pay for it, our team manager didn't see how it could be mandatory. On top of that, there are supposedly several members of our team who play HS Basketball and HS Soccer is permitted to start 1/11/21 so there's that. There might just be too many conflicts for most teams

My daughter said specifics were not given. Also, the info was given to the team members and there was no parent meeting.

Good idea bubbledad , I didn't think to check the other state associations, because ODP and specifically ODP South can't get their heads out to start publishing information. So the SC ODP has Jan 2-3, last year the subregional was the first weekend in January. The reason this doesn't makes sense to me is that the events are 3-day and they're not going to try and put it on New Year's day. The VA ODP has Jan 8-10 weekend marked off as a NC tournament: www.vysa.com/Default.aspx?tabid=2674209The NC ODP has Jan 9-10 marked off as a subregional invite tournament: www.ncsoccer.org/assets/112/36/girls_-_2020-21_odp_calendar_-_locations1.pdfIts so stupid we have to ferret around the internet for information like this. We need information and the earlier the better.

You should have a parent volunteer communicating with you regularly. I did this for my kid's ODP team for several years. I always found Georgia ODP to be very good about getting me stuff in plenty of time to send out. In turn, parents could ask me questions. If I couldnt answer the question,I could reach out to Georgia Soccer to get the information to pass along. Generally if one parent had a question, others had the same question. Good luck with the season.
