So after tonight, it’s an all Forsyth 7A final on both girls and boys sides. West vs Lambert for girls South vs Lambert for boys Makes the finals location even more of a head scratcher. Hopefully at least one of those finals gets scheduled at Duluth. Thats pretty interesting. Based purely on proximity.. is it likely that many of these schools’s players are UFA players?

On the girls side, my daughter knows girls on both teams, and both teams definitely have a lot of UFA players.
Looks like both games are at Duluth on Friday. Girls at 5:30 and boys at 8.

Pace and Lovett (3 miles apart in Buckhead) are sent to play in Savannah.
Holy Innocents and Pinecrest as well.
Madness.

So for the finals on GoFan, do you just buy the 3-day ticket for the venue or what???

Not only do Pace and Lovett boys have to play in Savannah, but their match time is 8:00 pm. How is this okay for HS aged students? GHSA has truly crapped the bed on this one.

The venues should not be hard and fast, but preferred locations. Both schools really need to petition GHSA.

Here is the full schedule. Definitely crazy to be sending these Atlanta teams to play in Savannah. At that point, just play at the higher seeds home stadium or flip a coin to see who gets home field. No reason Atlanta schools that close to each other should have to drive to Savannah for a Thursday night game.
Schedule Thursday, May 13 at Savannah Memorial 5:30 pm - 2A Girls: Bremen vs. Lovett 8:00 pm - 2A Boys: Pace Academy vs. Lovett
at Mercer 5:30 pm - 3A Girls: Westminster vs. GACS 8:00 pm - 3A Boys: Coahulla Creek vs. Westminster
at Duluth 5:30 pm - 4A Girls: North Oconee vs. Marist 8:00 pm - 4A Boys: SE Whitfield vs. East Hall
at McEachern 5:30 pm - 5A Girls: St. Pius vs. Blessed Trinity 8:00 pm - 5A Boys: McIntosh vs. Johnson-Gainesville
Friday, May 14 at Savannah Memorial 5:30 pm - 1A Private Girls: Holy Innocents' vs. Pinecrest 8:00 pm - 1A Private Boys: Wesleyan vs. Atlanta International
at Mercer 5:30 pm - 1A Public Girls: Atlanta Classical vs. Armuchee 8:00 pm - 1A Public Boys: ACE Charter vs. Georgia Military
at McEachern 5:30 pm - 6A Girls: Cambridge vs. Johns Creek 8:00 pm - 6A Boys: Johns Creek vs. Dalton
at Duluth 5:30 pm - 7A Girls: West Forsyth vs. Lambert 8:00 pm - 7A Boys: South Forsyth vs. Lambert

I just went and filled up cars for both the wife and daughter. Took me nearly two hours to find stations and wait in line to fill up. Good gravy- haven't these kids been through enough this year? When do the adults start realizing this is for the players and not about GHSA?

I am sure the parents at some of these schools would be glad to buyout any guarantees to host locations if it meant avoiding a drive to Savannah or Macon. :-)

I don't see how you can ask parents or anyone to drive to savannah. there is a good chance, you won't find gas to even get home (assuming savannah is like Atlanta). Thats ~ 520 miles round trip, not many vehicles have that kind of range - maybe a suburban because of the gas tank size. Some places might not even let you fill up anyway.

Gas is pretty hard to come by down I-16. Friend is from Dublin-went to 6 gas stations before finding any…and they limited him to $20.

If I were a parent of these teams having to travel to Savannah, and the opponent was also another Atlanta team, I would try to get with the other parents/coaches to petition GHSA to move the game to Atlanta. Especially in light of the current gas situation. At some point, logic has to come into play given the current situation. However, I see GHSA just telling them tough luck. Show up to play.

Between Georgia Soccer and GHSA, I don't see a lot of problem solving at it's highest level. I had a lengthy post about this earlier in this thread yesterday afternoon, but even beyond the gas shortage- which should immediately put an end to any plans to FORCE teams, parents, & fans to attempt to drive 500 or more miles round trip, or even 175 miles for those going to Macon- there is frankly zero reason for these games to be held at neutral sites anyway. I love soccer, but it's simply NOT football or basketball in terms of interest in state playoffs at the high school level, to where there are "casual fans" who will turn out in large numbers to watch a final that doesn't involve their own school. I don't know if there is a concern about "fairness" in terms of one team having home field advantage in the final, but I can guarantee you teams like Lovett & Pace would happily play at the other's home field if it meant not having to needlessly travel 250 miles away to play in Savannah, in front of virtually zero fans outside of some parents & a few very dedicated friends. And it's not like there would be some major economic impact to Savannah if the game was played in Atlanta instead. This is just common sense, gas shortage or not. Let's see if the GHSA has any.

I understand all schools involved have petitioned to move the games locally, even considering not showing up but told by GHSA they would be “banned”from the league. Parents (students and players) are extremely unhappy at the non-sense. There is more negotiation going back and forth and final decision may be made sometime tomorrow morning. But for now, venue in Savannah still stands.

GHSA should have to pay for the schools to travel.
Will we see an SCCL (private league) in high school soccer?

Based on the latest tweet from GHSA, I assume no games were moved out of Savannah. Tweet basically says today is championship day for 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A. Still lists all the original venues. Meanwhile about 80% of the gas stations I passed this morning had no gas.

One of the things that makes it so bad is that the venue assignments were made just a few days ago. It would have been far better if the assignments were set from the beginning so that a team knows if they make it to the finals, they are headed to a particular location.

I think the top 7-8 private schools could pull their soccer teams from GHSA and form their own exclusive league. Lets get this ball moving. GHSA soccer could go the way of Georgia Soccer. Imagine, there could even be pro/rel as well as offering athletic scholarships (which they likely do anyways, they just skirt the rules).

the smaller private schools pre private 1-A, were in there own league back in the day, I think they called it metro 10. Not sure if they also competed on the state level also or if this was a regional thing though.

Westminster is the best girls team in any GHSA period, if you want to argue that then you haven’t seen them play in person
