I think the top 7-8 private schools could pull their soccer teams from GHSA and form their own exclusive league. Lets get this ball moving. GHSA soccer could go the way of Georgia Soccer. Imagine, there could even be pro/rel as well as offering athletic scholarships (which they likely do anyways, they just skirt the rules). agreed! For example Westminster is so dominant I would love to see them play only a nationwide schedule because they roll every public school on their schedule

Westminster is the best girls team in any GHSA period, if you want to argue that then you haven’t seen them play in person They were outstanding when we played them. Speed, touch, smarts, teamwork. They have the whole package.

They have the whole package. Is this the first year that several of their girls have been able to play high school soccer, with the end of DA? I know that's the case for one of their Power 5-bound seniors that plays at Tophat, and I'm sure they have at least a few more that are probably in the same boat. Would make sense & honestly, good for them- those girls deserve to be able to represent their school as well as their club.

Looks like they have quite a few ECNL players from AFU and GSA and also have a player from the UFA Norcross National championship team that moved to All In.

Great games tonight for 6A and 7A girls. Rematches of games that happened during the year and both were controversial I heard

Is it just knowledge of the names on the roster or is there somewhere you looked that up...??

Is it just me or does anyone else have an issue with these games being played during AP exams? I mean if you have an exam and then have to drive to Savanah you might not make it especially if it is an afternoon exam. This is the same with track and field. Also graduation ceremonies conflict. I know a track kid that has to choose between walking for graduation and running for a state title.🤔

GSA heavily represented as well as AFU ECNL players. I know several players and parents connected with North Oconee. They play a great style of soccer and are very impressive. They're very young with only 2 seniors on Varsity. They're going to make noise for the next 3 years and dominate. Just the first of many. They'll at least win 3 total.

Their top two, striker and goalkeeper, are on the 03 Afu premier 1 team. Lot of others at AFU and GSA too. The coach, Ben Grassmyer, I believe coaches at Gsa and you also have Chad Maddox (top coach at gsa known for development), his daughter and a bunch of her gsa teammates he’s coached since academy out there.

North Oconee has 3 from GSA, 6 from AFU, 1 from UFA, and 4-6 from OFC. They are very good. As somebody mentioned here, two of the freshman are amazing, one plays for AFU the other for GSA.

Of the 14 North Oconee players who played in the game; 5 ECNL between AFU/GSA/UFA, 4 SCCL Club between AFU/GSA, and 5 between Athens/OFC. The rest of the roster is primarily Athens/OFC with a couple/few SCCL-P players. Two of the players were seniors (one ECNL, one OFC). Next year they get one ECNL back from injury and add 2 ECNL Freshmen and a good ODP Keeper. For the AAAA class they should be able to go deep into the playoffs for a few more years.
That said, Marist was the better team with much better possession...and much worse attitudes. Final was 3-2. Marist scored first on undefended shot coming across the 18. North Oconee was awarded a PK to tie it due to a handball inside the 18 off a free kick (due to aforementioned ugly play). Then Marist gave up a goal on a long throw in that the keeper mishandled into her own net. North Oconee's final goal was on a beautiful cross to a header to go up 3-1. Marist scored on a poorly defended short cross with a nice finish to bring it within 1. North Oconee played a defensive clearance game in a very tense final 12 minutes to hold on for the win. The attitude difference between the Marist and North Oconee was apparent.

Even though they were down a goal they were clearly dominating possession and shots on goal. Next all of a sudden North has this lightning quick pass string down the field, hard driven cross in to the 6 yard box, and header. That happened fast. That little girl that stuck the header is an amazing talent.

Both the 7A games were great last night at Duluth. Absolutely packed stands for the girls and boys.
West held on to beat Lambert 1-0 on the girls side.
South Forsyth/Lambert boys was a tough and physical game. South dominated the first half and Lambert dominated the second half. South gets the go ahead goal right as time expired in the first OT. They then hold on the entire second OT to win 2-1. South keeper was absolutely amazing in that second OT making multiple saves to keep that game from getting tied back up and going to PKs. South coach I believe is the first woman to win a championship coaching a boys team.

That was the accusation after the regular season contest.

Really proud of the Georgia teams but I have a difficult time believing that Georgia has 12 of the top 25 teams in the nation. Almost all of the schools in the Top 25 are from Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Almost all of the schools in the Top 25 are from Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Those are the spring season rankings only, so a lot of that is a function of which states actually played their girls' soccer seasons in the spring this school year. There are links on the page for the fall & winter seasons as well. It looks like Florida & Texas (girls soccer hotbeds) both played in the winter, while California and most of the other western states didn't play at all. The fall rankings were dominated by New Jersey, Indiana, Tennessee, & Pennsylvania.

It all makes for a greater debate and push for more uniformity. Maybe one day well see high school soccer teams compete in non-regional matches against out of state powerhouse schools like we see trending in other sports?! I know, wishful thinking. Not sure if Maxprep produces a more composite ranking later.

Unfortunately GA and FL will never move to the fall. These are 2 of the biggest states for football. Soccer is just a blip on the radar compared to that.

So, all HS soccer moves to the spring season and then you can have fall season be for club soccer and spring be for HS. This way, players aren't overwhelmed having both in one fall season. It's a win-win??
