Perhaps the “best of the nation” is actually the right to (utilize the well earned bully pulpit and) protest peacefully.

Love soccergurl. She is very intuitive. IMO - politics is hurting sports, I do unfortunately think soccer fans are tuning out as they don’t want the politics, just as football fans are tuning out the NFL. Reading the social media posts, many are rooting against the US Women’s team which is a shame. But just as the ladies have the freedom to kneel before our flag / National Anthem so do Americans have the right to hate it and root against them.

Why is it topics involving the Atlanta United Academy, the Tophat portion of NASA-Tophat and of course the non-soccer punches at the US Women's Nat'l Team just bring out the crazies and the truly ugly part of "supporters" Yes they lost, comment however and as much as you want about ALL THINGS SOCCER (sorry allthingsoccer) but nope not with this iteration of the US WNT. No, we have to pontificate about everything other than Soccer. It's sad, pathetic and actually tired. However, the beauty of this whole experiment we call our democracy says, agree with or not, I have to respect your opinions. Maybe we should extend that courtesy to them regardless of what they do off the pitch... 🇺🇸⚽🇺🇸

That’s probably the point.. The Olympics is a sporting event free of politics so thanks for your agreement on focus on sports .. so using your words somewhat “your opinions don’t concern us, focus on the sport.”
Focus on the game.. any team on any given day can be beaten is true ..just ask the USA Men’s BB team about being beaten by Nigeria..

Best roast yet from America's only true source of news: babylonbee.com/news/inspiring-us-womens-soccer-team-to-boycott-scoring-goals-until-racism-is-defeated"Yeah, we didn't score any goals against Sweden last night, but that was totally on purpose," said star player and beloved activist Megan Rapinoe. "This isn't the time to score goals—when America is still racist. Don’t confuse yourself with Jesse Owens 4 golds and how he saluted during the National anthem at the1936 Olympics in craycray Germany and how he faced segregation back home even by the WH afterwards to the current SJW moments. I believe Jesse said something similar like… “remember, I am not a politician.. “ 1936 segregated and 2021 SJW bended knee moments aren’t in the same level of comparison plain and simple.. Jesse O initially refused to support the 1968 black power salute by Tommie and John which resulted in their exit from the Olympic village. In addition, Owens was against Jimmy Carter (US) boycotting the 1980 summer Olympics in the Soviet Union which included 60 plus other nations over the Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan.. Small details seem to escape you like the possibilities of state run steroid programs by East Germany and the Soviet Union being a leading cause of their 1984 boycott.. ohh wait, Iran and Cuba boycotted too, what a lose. Using your words .. focus on the game (pitch)

Finally watched the game last night. It was probably the most physical women’s National team match I’ve seen in a while. IMO Sweden looked like the tougher team and this helped them create more chances and prevented the US women from getting in any kind of rhythm. They imposed their will and style of play on the USWNT and not the other way around.

Wow! Overreact much? It is one game that the team has lost after 44 wins or draws. No one dominates forever. They still can advance. Personally I think there were people on the roster that maybe should not have been and I think Midge Purce should have been on the roster instead of at home, BUT this team is talented and has plenty of time to turn it around. Many times you need a game like this to wake you up!!! I do not think their politics take away time from practicing so that is not it. Probably a little complacent given howamy wins they have had. Sweden is a very good team. They have advanced to the semifinals in the last two major world tournaments. They had a silver in Rio and bronze in 2019. Just chill out and stop saying it is a dumpster fire. Well said!

Lol at SoccerGurl. Bless her heart. I'm not even sure she realizes she is being laughed at in here...
I am actively rooting against this USWNT. I hope they lose every game they play and send Rapinoe out without a medal in last time playing with the USWNT. Pride Cometh before the Fall, and all but 3 of those women knelt supposedly representing our country.
My issue always has been not that they kneel, but the fake virtue signaling kneeling is. Why play for a country that is so evil and horrible? Why represent a country you hate? Put your money and your values where your knee and mouth is and quit the team and show everyone your point.
US Soccer should remove anyone that can't stand for our flag and represent our nation in a positive way. There are plenty of young women dying to be on the USWNT. We can find more players.
If they want to kneel and preach in their league games for their league teams then go right ahead, but when you represent a country you should respect it.
I won't watch a single game, and I hope they lose them all.

So does every coach who criticizes a player hate them? Do you hate AUFC or the Falcons when you criticize them?
It's perfectly ok to love your country/team/state/family while still acknowledging that there are things that need to be fixed. It's the simple difference of 'I love my country but we can do better' vs 'love it or leave it'. One is patriotism, one is nationalism.. understand the difference.

If our country "doing better" means all this #woke stuff, critical race theory, systemic racism, anti-science stuff like biological men can be women and vice versa and everyone is expected to accept it because it supposedly makes our country better then count me and probably at least half the country out. All this stuff is just another attempt at Marxism. I think people are going to be in for a rude awakening the next couple of elections. There is at least half if not more of the country tired of the woke crap, GOP, Dem, and Independent alike.

If only there was a time machine to send those people back to 1940, or the 1830s.

Wow this thread takes another tumble off the rails. Though it is interesting so many white male privileged fools think that they are still in the majority. If only there was a time machine to send those people back to 1940, or the 1830s. LOL so it jumped off the rails with my post? I am saying exactly what many others said already in this post. LOL @ white privlege..... I'm sorry you believe in that bull crap but it is indeed bull crap. I have no white guilt, nor should I. I'm sorry if you are white if you do and were duped into believing all this systemic racism and critical theory bull crap. Maybe you should research those theories a little more so you can find out that the people that made them are Marxists, and this is just another way of creeping Marxism into our country. Everyone in this country has the same ability to succeed. Are there racists in this country? Sure there are racists of all shapes and colors including minorities that are racist as well. The amount of racists in this country do not amount to enough to stop a determined individual to succeed. What Critical Theory and all this other bull crap want is not equality but equity. We are all equal but equality doesn't mean everyone will succeed. What these Marxists and others that believe in this crap want is equity not equality. Equity is not the same thing. Equity implies that everyone is the same and there are no winners or losers. That is not freedom at all. In order for there to be no losers people will have things taken away from them to give to the "losers". Education will be dumbed down so that everyone is equal results. There will be no smart and accelerated students. Everything will be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. Not everyone wins, but everyone has an equal chance to win. What CRT and other bull crap Marxist ideas do is make it where there are no winners or losers by force. That isn't a country that anyone wants to live in. I'm sorry also I know plenty of folks besides white males that think CRT is also bull crap and don't want to have anything to do with it. Last of all you want to talk about privilege. I sure wish I had some of that growing up. Growing up with my dad having to work 2 jobs where I never saw him ever with 4 kids in the family because that is what a Father is supposed to do. Eating poor people's food in a small house. Never getting to go out to eat, or drive nice cars, or anything like that. No big trips. No nothing. Is that privilege? If you say so! LOL.... Next time you find some of that privilege send it my way.....

Final comment on this thread. National teams, regardless of sport, are supposed represent the best of the nation, uniting a broad and diverse fan base toward one goal. The current iteration of the USWNT falls far short of that ideal. I would posit that the split political opinions within the team are creating tension, perhaps below the surface, that is impacting training, teamwork, chemistry, etc. Possibly the most ridiculous analysis I’ve heard yet.
