Wow this thread takes another tumble off the rails. Though it is interesting so many white male privileged fools think that they are still in the majority. If only there was a time machine to send those people back to 1940, or the 1830s. LOL so it jumped off the rails with my post? I am saying exactly what many others said already in this post. LOL @ white privlege..... I'm sorry you believe in that bull crap but it is indeed bull crap. I have no white guilt, nor should I. I'm sorry if you are white if you do and were duped into believing all this systemic racism and critical theory bull crap. Maybe you should research those theories a little more so you can find out that the people that made them are Marxists, and this is just another way of creeping Marxism into our country. Everyone in this country has the same ability to succeed. Are there racists in this country? Sure there are racists of all shapes and colors including minorities that are racist as well. The amount of racists in this country do not amount to enough to stop a determined individual to succeed. What Critical Theory and all this other bull crap want is not equality but equity. We are all equal but equality doesn't mean everyone will succeed. What these Marxists and others that believe in this crap want is equity not equality. Equity is not the same thing. Equity implies that everyone is the same and there are no winners or losers. That is not freedom at all. In order for there to be no losers people will have things taken away from them to give to the "losers". Education will be dumbed down so that everyone is equal results. There will be no smart and accelerated students. Everything will be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. Not everyone wins, but everyone has an equal chance to win. What CRT and other bull crap Marxist ideas do is make it where there are no winners or losers by force. That isn't a country that anyone wants to live in. I'm sorry also I know plenty of folks besides white males that think CRT is also bull crap and don't want to have anything to do with it. Last of all you want to talk about privilege. I sure wish I had some of that growing up. Growing up with my dad having to work 2 jobs where I never saw him ever with 4 kids in the family because that is what a Father is supposed to do. Eating poor people's food in a small house. Never getting to go out to eat, or drive nice cars, or anything like that. No big trips. No nothing. Is that privilege? If you say so! LOL.... Next time you find some of that privilege send it my way..... Wow - there's a lot to unpack with your unhinged, dollar-store-Tucker-Carlson act.. yikes.
Let's just start with this...
Well - No. They really don't. They've made it seem as if they almost do.. but no, they don't Allow me to explain a bit (not that you'll listen).
Lots of people like to pat themselves on the back and tell themselves how everyone has a fair shake.. well, of course they do.. because THEY had a fair shake (this is where white privilege comes in). See, I grew up in a nice suburb of a major city.. very close to the city. You know how many black kids I was exposed to? Virtually zero. They didn't own houses in my town or go to our (excellent) schools. Why? Redlining.
Banks wouldn't lend. Real Estate wouldn't sell. There are plenty of HOAs and neighborhoods with explicit language (now unenforceable) against selling to minorities. The most recent settlement around redlining was a LONG time ago, though... all the way back in 2015. Yes. 2015.
There are towns around Atlanta that were still sundown towns SINCE AFTER I GRADUATED COLLEGE. This isn't ancient history.
Ruby Bridges - the girl who famously broke school segregation in Louisiana... is only 66 years old now. Barely reaching retirement age. She had to enter school surrounded by US Marshals. So tell me how this is all ancient history - and people OUR AGE who have had to grow up with this had the same opportunities as everyone else.
This is stuff that all happened within our generation and barely the generation before us. It isn't ancient history - and the effects are still being felt today.
If you think any of this isn't fully intentional - perhaps I can point you towards a member of the Reagan administration - Lee Atwater. Here he is talking about the GOP 'Southern Strategy" (you know what that is) in 1981:
So.. people MY age.. my friends and coworkers - had to grow up with this against them. Tell me again how everyone had the same opportunity.

Just getting back from vacation. ( seems like some people may be in need of a vacation 😊) This is an interesting read😳. It’s amazing where some discussions will go. Seems like the past and the present are being conflated. i.e redlining was outlawed more than 55 years ago. Probably longer than most of us on this forum have been alive. Our country is not perfect, ( we have tons of “warts” ) but someone tell me what country is better. People fought and died to give our women’s team the freedom to kneel and the freedom to boo them. I am betting you won’t see any Chinese, Russian , etc athletes kneeling during their “ National Anthem” or disrespecting their flag. Not necessarily because they wouldn’t want to but because they don’t have the freedom to.

Redlining may have been outlawed - don't think that stopped anything. It's still going on today.
Hell - Segregation was also stopped that long ago - yet there were sundown towns into the 90s and apparently longer in some places. As far as redlining - you can still see remnants of it in all kinds of gerrymandered districts around most urban areas. How do you think some of these fools get elected in areas where they clearly don't represent the locals.
When an entire race of people can't own houses or buildings or borrow money to start businesses.. for generations.. that has a long lasting effect. It doesn't just 'go away' when a law is changed.. and it doesn't even just 'go away' once people stop actually doing the thing that the law was supposed to be changed about. Based on the fact that there's STILL issues going on with lenders today - it isn't just going away anytime soon.

Can’t believe I am getting sucked into this. No I didn’t miss your “bit” on the redlining settlement in 2015 ( actually there were more settlements just within the last year or so. ) But you kinda made my point for me. Prior to 1965 there was no recourse for these types of bad practices. Crimes (discriminations) are committed against all different races of people everyday, my point was redlining is illegal and not a common practice today. Those caught doing it pay a very steep penalty. As I said this country has many warts. This may be a topic better suited for Facebook.

Next time you find some of that privilege send it my way..... This post is the poster child of white privilege. Yeah you can achieve whatever you want ... no matter who you are ... as long as you assimilate to what's deemed acceptable to white society. There are people and societies still that will favor white skin over black without knowing your Father had to work a bunch and had to jump through hoops to help his family ... that's white privlege. Skin color leg up, not always financial. Atlanta is one of the few cities that may not instantly peg a black man as doing illegal activities b/c he drives a nice car. But that depends on the county. Look at the demographics of soccer on the club level for women. My daughter was the only black girl out of 52 players in U12 academy b/c folks are being priced out and scholarships aren't advertised. I'm glad the USWNT got smacked in the mouth! It'll make their come back more exciting! Damn right they are protesting and Jesse Owens was old school when the '68 Olympics came around. Plus he was on some "don't make massa mad" tip. RIP Jesse but they reduced him to racing horses for money. Folks have voices and raised fists 👊 to shout and proclaim for the demands of ALL people's liberties with. You probably don't want the acknowledgement of how slavery made our country rich and how reparations are owed to the descendants taught in school huh? ... GTFOOH! You probably don't think college athletes should get paid either and that a "free education" is enough. You probably think black professional athletes should shut up and play ... GTFOOH!

Right, that had nothing to do with a rapidly growing population in West Cobb that saw the addition of not only Hillgrove but Kennesaw Mountain and Allatoona High Schools and a major expansion at Harrison. Throw the race card onto any situation. Nice work.

The 2015 settlement I mentioned was Associated Banc Corp - their settlement was $200MM.. which sounds HUGE, except:
So they got fined roughly a half percent. Brutal.
Another 2015 settlement was $825000 to Evans bank. The latest number I can find for them was 2019 - when they had well over $1B. Again, peanuts

Allatoona was created before what I'm speaking of happened. Hillgrove opened in 2006. Allatoona in 2008. The growth was people, of all colors, seeking affordable housing and good schools. That’s a good thing. Schools can only handle so many students. When the area reaches the limit, new schools are built and attendance zones change. Hence the multitude of new schools in West Cobb to accommodate more students. Because attendance zones are based somewhat on distance, it’s natural that a school’s demographics will reflect the area around the school.

Thank you for the research, but respectfully you are conflating numbers, which may affect your conclusion. In short, banks have two balance sheets. One contains the customer assets and liabilities. The other tracks the bank’s own assets, which are derived from profits on the customer’s deposits and loans. The $34B is customer assets / deposits - not funds the bank can use to pay fines. With $34B in assets, expected revenue would be about $700M a year with a 10% profit margin, or $70M. So a $200M fine would consume 3 years of profits, a pretty steep penalty. I have not looked at this banks exact numbers, this is an off the cuff estimate based on experience. I will not argue about past practices, but wanted to put the numbers you present in proper perspective.

Thank you for your response but folks of the community still need to be heard on their concerns on where some district lines are drawn outside of the blanketed "our population has grown" ... "Need to be heard" - the attendance zone process is transparent with ample opportunity for public comment and pushback. I personally attended board meetings long ago to fight a planned rezoning of our school. That opportunity is available for all. You make it sound as if the attendance zones are racially gerrymandered. Please look at the zones of the 4 schools in West Cobb and tell me what was gerrymandered. The zones are contiguous and generally follow major roads, keeping school pipelines and neighborhoods intact. The school enrollments are pretty similar (click on a zone to see the number). www.zipdatamaps.com/schools/georgia/county/map-of-cobb-county-ga-high-school-attendance-zonesNot happy with your school? Move. We did twenty years ago to get into the district of our choice. Options exist at almost all price points in the majority of zones (East Cobb excluded). Respectfully, racial make up is not a determinant of school success. Economics is the key driver. Before our last move, I ran a statistical analysis of test scores v. a number of variables - % minority, school size, % gifted, % of students on subsidized lunch. Guess which variable had the highest correlation with test scores? Free lunch, by far. Why? It's economics. Schools in less affluent communities have fewer nuclear families, less parental involvement, and less additional funds for the PTA and booster clubs. This is the same across racial groups - it's money. McEachern overcomes some of this obstacle, at least for facilities and programs, as it draws on a multi-million dollar private endowment.

As I said the US is anything but perfect and we have some horrible history, (all countries do) but what country is greater than ours? I think your perspective is distorted. I have never seen a post by either of the aforementioned people that says they don't like our country. As someone else mentioned on one of these threads, you can still love someone or something that you still think has some faults. As you just admitted that we have some horrible history here, but that you still love the country. What makes you think that they don't? As a secondary question, since you brought up the horrible history, have we resolved every problem related to our history? Have we solved every problem that is NOT related to our history? I think you know the answer to that... Please have some respect for others having differing opinions without resorting to tactics that basically amount to name calling.

New Zealand vs USWNT
Man, that was a very different game than Sweden. While the Swedes dominated with a very physical, high press type game, New Zealand decided to focus more on compact team defending and counter attack. Maybe they didn’t watch the Sweeden game or didn’t have the personnel to pull off a similar strategy but the US Women absolutely picked them apart! 6 goals with another 4 being called offsides. Dominating performance against a lower ranked squad.
