The 2005 boys camp was last week. A lot of the players on the exempt list are playing u12 DA.

I'm assuming the 2005 boys playing U12 DA this year are not allowed to participate in ODP?

Depends on the club but the average seems to be around $2,000 which does not include training gear/uniform or travel expenses to tournaments or showcases.

Ah yes, the asinine assumption that the reason US soccer is failing is because the pool of players is too limited because of the cost involved in youth soccer. Iceland is a country of 350k which might give you a pool of 30k youth players; I have seen more players than that at Academy Cup. Iceland started implementing a development curriculum approximately 10 years ago and now has players in most of the European top leagues. The next incorrect assumption is that if only the top American athletes played soccer, the US could compete. I will tell you that many great athletes already compete in this sport in the US but Americans have to realize that soccer is as much a skill and art as it is an athletic endeavor. American sports are the embodiment of athleticism and strength so much that great athletes that have never played American football before can start playing at 18-20 and still be successful. There will never be an 18 year old athlete that picks up a soccer ball for the first time and becomes successful. Soccer requires too much skill and game IQ for that too happened. My playing career was long over before I came to this country but I am experiencing US soccer development with my son. Here is what I have found that I believe is hindering the development of soccer in America: - The primary ways coaches improve teams is through recruiting not developing. A coach who wanted my son to play for him excitedly told us how he was in the process of recruiting 7 top players. On the drive home my son asked me if the coach would recruit a player for his spot if he ever messed up. - In general, coaching is not at a high level. My 13 year old nephew can discuss tactics at a much higher level than any 17 year old RPL level player I have met - Coaches coach to win the next game, tournament . - parents are too involved in their kids 'soccer career'. Many parents don't trust the coach will do the right thing for their kid - Size and speed are always favored over skill, even at Academy and in early Select years. If US youth soccer was responsible for trying to find an artist to create a work like Michelangelo’s David they would round up every lumberjack they could find because they can swing a hammer/ax really hard and fast.

It's pretty pricey but has anyone's kid attended or heard about anyone attending the IMG Camp in Bradenton, Florida? I can't tell whether it's amazing or a waste of money!

Two words: Freddy Adu
But seriously, a 30 year old as a high schooler is a huge stretch!

Any updates on who the AU academy coaches will be? I've heard rumors around our club for a while now.

So, am I correct in assuming the tryouts for U12 DA will not be public, but rather by invite only? If so, has anyone heard when tryouts will be and/or if they've already taken place for fall 2016?

Not sure how the pro/rel will come to MLS, they currently are running a pyramid scheme with huge buy ins and the players involved wouldn't allow there teams to get demoted/relegated. You're right. And for USSF to cut NASL or another soccer "league" off at the neck, because MLS businessmen lobbied for it, is a tragedy for soccer. Agreed!

I thought about this forum right when Wood scored!
Dempsey and Altidore looked completely uninspired.

So I assume all these unhappy folks wanted to be team manager, right.. but just didn't get the job? This is an interesting statement because it implies: 1) You have no right to voice concern unless you have volunteered to be TM or you are TM yourself 2) If you are volunteering your time as TM you have an inherent right to certain things

Unfortunately, it hasn't been our experience so far that the Team Manager doesn't influence roster and coaching decisions. I'm interested in seeing other responses.

From Pugent sound which looks like made the switch for this coming season: www.pugetsoundpremierleague.com/NPL/862067.htmlOther than aligning with international standards, not sure I agree with some of these answers. However you slice it you will always have younger and older players in an age group. Development should be irrelevant to age cut offs. Yeah, their answers are weak for me. I do see how you can look at it as an opportunity for the Aug-Dec kids to play up. When they get to high school they should be well ahead of the majority of kids in their grade. They will have a very hard time making ODP or DA, but they will be in prime position for high school ball. While I understand the realities of younger kids born Aug-Dec having trouble making ODP and DA, it frustrates me that essentially one-half of an age group is written off before the age of 11. Unfortunately, this change hits my late-fall kid right at this time so I guess he is doomed to focus solely on high school ball now

I know most of you are focused on the Women's World Cup but if you're not watching the Copa America, you are missing out on some exciting games with world-class players!
Chile vs. Mexico 3-3 tonight was an incredible match! If your only source of soccer is the Premier League, South American soccer is going to look a lot different:)

I was at the game too and I know it looked like really unattractive soccer but, having been to a lot of Silverbacks games over the years, they are actually a little more enjoyable to watch this season.
