We were told for NPL you would play everyone in your division home and away. PLUS everyone in the other division once either home OR away. So 16 games total. All in the Fall for 03 and up that are in high school in the Spring. Thats the same thing I heard Same.

Everybody speaking in absolutes is not the best way to.the truth. Georgia Soccer is fighting for control of the landscape. So yeah political ad style black and white for the other guys. With Ga. down to two DA teams. Please tell me more about how the leftover DA girls will flock to play RPL and SRPL. Judging the leagues on Georgia's 05s from the year DA was introduced seems like a really narrow and anomalous sample. Especially because the beautiful game is also one of the most cruel, Any Given Sunday, never know who could win sports. Wise words. This is posturing, and we as parents are doing the same. For instance, until I see the top finishing ECNL teams beat the top NPL teams away in my son’s age group, I won’t agree 100% that ECNL is definitively better.

Like it or not, NPL is positioned by US Club as a junior level league. ECNL for US Club is the top of the pyramid. Is that pyramid posted somewhere on their site?

On the girls side, I would put ECNL over RPL and RPL over NPL. ECNL girls as the better league, yes, I follow your logic. But would you still rank RPL over NPL now that the big 5 have left RPL - and news of the other clubs in the newly formed NL/Piedmont Conference? No disrespect, but this is no longer your father's Oldsmobile.

Assume for a moment that your son is not ready for DA, but can make a team higher then SCCL. And you are left with a decision to join a club that offers NPL or ECNL. Which would you choose, and why? I'm definitely not looking for opinions on the merits of specific clubs. I'm looking for opinions on NPL vs ECNL. Specifically, I'd like to hear about experiences with consistency of play from top to bottom in the league, travel, exposure, quality of referees, etc. Thank you in advance for the feedback. Boys ECNL vs NPL: not even close. Inferior competition. If we are talking about boys side, I don't think that you can say that after 1 year of ECNL boys, that NPL is "not even close". The boys in GA got it only because their clubs were already members on the girls side. The results of the ENPL playoffs will shed some light on things. Tough to gauge NPL as last year it was only a 8 game season. This year going to 14 in Fall and 14 in Spring. Plus there are some good clubs that can get into NPL that were not allowed into ECNL. ECNL for boys has a 1 year head start, but it will come down to the clubs playing in each. **Speaking from a boys soccer perspective. Not sure what its like on girls side, but I would expect that ECNL the better option on girls side since its been around for so long. On Boys side of ssa last year, it was an 11 game season and next fall it will include 16 games. US Club ran it very well.

In general, don’t worry about wat you’re doing on your kid’s behalf until someone with authority tells you to stop - the clubs sure don’t follow all the rules...

sadly this seems to be the main intention of the big 5 I agree that it may be a byproduct, but the main thrust behind ECNL, NPL or SCCL was to have an option other than SRPL. The big clubs want more predictability each year on leagues and schedule.

I was at the SSA town hall, and yes they are selling SCCL as regional, and NPL on par with ECNL (see my post from the SSA town hall thread)- their reasoning is that NPL (South Atlantic) is a qualifying league for the ENPL.
I bet SCCL and NPL are both run out of central, although it could differ based on gender/age. They did not mention location at the town hall, however.
They used travel as an example of decreased cost. For instance, GSA N and GSA S won't play each other in Miami!
We will see what the costs are for NPL and SCCL, when they post them.

Looking to the future can someone at the Norcross townhall meeting ask the hypothetical question. Why location based and not team based? What if a Norcross SCCL is more successful than a Forsyth RPL team? Is there an open minded opportunity for team based Premier versus SCCL in the future or is the executive decision ultimately that of location, location, location ? I thought I read or heard from someone that this may be a US Club Soccer rule or thing. You can't have NPL and SCCL run out of the same location. At SSA townhall, the message was that the first team is NPL and second team is SCCL. There was no mention of a location rule.

Has SSA applied for ECNL for girls or boys? Did SSA apply for DA for u15+? Just wondering what there future holds for a club that size. I personally have no issues with them not having either, many clubs don't, and there is nothing wrong with that. I know that they applied for DA at older ages (boys), but did not get it. Not sure about ECNL - I believe that SSA would prefer the ECNL name recognition, but they seem to be making the best out of NPL now.

The townhall was good and added a bit of information to what has already been discussed here. For older ages (non-DA age groups), NPL is being “sold” as the top team and on par with ECNL. One thing that does gives credit to that claim is that the NPL division winners will compete with ECNL top teams in the ENPL (I have been posting that a lot in this forum, I know...). The old RPL is gone, but SSA spent time assuring parents that the league will be better run, with better refs - and tents, trainers and Gatorade at all games. Also, 16 games (2 games vs division), and 1 game vs teams in other division. A total of 8 away and 8 home games. 3 of the 16 games is at least part of one NPL showcase, which sounds good to me because as effort is made to have a complete season, the same effort goes to holding a showcase. More information was shared about the NPL PDP program and ID camp. You can read more on the NPL site: www.nationalpremierleagues.com/pdp-and-id2Last thing I’ll share is that many ssa coaches are from the UK, some coaches ex-premier league players and coaches as well, and I bet if they were given a clean slate to start a soccer league, the US Club models are more like what they would do vs USYS. They also mentioned that the club based model offers members more predictability before and during tryouts (vs waiting to hear whether their application to RPL was accepted or not).

Right but it sounds like a parallel universe of SCCL to me, which is not allowed to play in State Cup. Am I making an inaccurate comparison? Not at all. Seems like other states have it figured out better than GA. As long as it's club-based, then I think the player's experience in a club with a lot of talent to draw from (no disrespect to others, but I'm referring to the big clubs), will develop the player to his/her maximum. In other words, we parents will chase the club not the league/team. I know this isn't always mutually exclusive, but it's a little more clear to me what is meant by club-based. After all, that great article which was recently shared - Messi thrived at a CLUB, not a LEAGUE.

For all its flaws, the DiVarsity match is a pretty nice event. I've coached in it several times and always enjoyed it. A lot of very good players, some not so much (but the best in their parts of the state, I guess--so it depends on your definition of "All-Star"). "Player of the Year" winners are typically good choices. As for the entry fee, I don't expect it's a big moneymaker at all . . . and many schools will pay the fees for the athletes representing them. Did it happen last year? Did enough boys/girls RSVP and Pay?

Just like SRPL Division 1, teams play other teams in the division or league - it's just that one club has more than one team.

Soccermom, my son has 2 friends on that team, and I went to the AU game last night with their parents... it is actually in the $7k range. Well I asked my friend this morning, and thats what the club charged them for travel. This doesn't include the club fee, which was around $1800 I think? The uniforms were free. Not sure how much the other CF charged or how much their travel costs, but this included everything. Hotel, plane tickets, transportation and meals. I see - you were only referring to travel.

My post is sort of a "I'll bet this happens..." thing. As long as I've been in youth soccer as a parent, it becomes more and more true, rules are made to be broken and there is negotiation among leagues and clubs in which we have no knowledge or understanding. Because of its multiple locations, I predict more than one SCCL team for CF for a particular age group. This may be true for other big clubs. Why would U.S. Club Soccer not want that?

Curious, since both NPL and ECNL are under US Club, why wouldn't a club like SSA or AFC not get ECNL if US Club grants them NPL? I have seen posts that many consider NPL a step below ECNL, but at least when ECNL boys began, the clubs that got it were in RPL along with SSA (at least at 01b group). And NPL teams that perform well will play ECNL teams that finished high in the ENPL playoffs... So I just wonder why the distinction?

I spoke with some UFA U17 DA parents, and they were not happy when they were UP 3-1 Sunday. The main concern I heard was the cost (rumored to be $7,000 for this season). There were also some grumblings about the coach (which is normal--every coach will have detractors), and that UFA doesn't help the boys when it comes to college recruiting. CF is seen as a much better place for college connections. I can understand the feelings about the bathroom situation, but I don't understand the complaints about $1, which was done to reduce car break-ins. I have friends on that boys team. The travel expenses were $4200 for the year. UFA is having its annual college ID Camp this weekend Soccermom, my son has 2 friends on that team, and I went to the AU game last night with their parents... it is actually in the $7k range.

If they are playing within two divisions then this somewhat reduces the amount of travel. No divisions to my knowledge
