I went to the Pius-Roswell game. Full disclosure, my kid plays JV at Pius.
Pius was the better team for most of the first half but Roswell tied it late with an incredible corner. Second half Roswell was the better team for the first 15-20 minutes and then it was even pretty much the rest of the game. Very back and forth, very physical, lots of yellow cards on both sides. Crowd was really into it. First OT, Pius gave up 2 goals. I’ll leave my comments about how/why they occurred but it was pretty frustrating. Pius tried desperately to get one back and make it a 1 score difference but never could.
And on the 7A talk above, after seeing what Walton did to Pius late in the season, it would not surprise me if they win it all. They’re very good.

I didn't see the game on NFHS but it was randomly on YouTube. Didn't watch the entire thing but did some quick scrolling. This may be what they were talking about. Hard to tell exactly what happened as a result as the camera either cut off for the cards or they edited them out. oh yeah you can hear the commentator say 1 red and 3 yellows. i can’t make out which team got what- i think he was saying last names. I did some digging of information on it, and it seems the Referee messed up on this. So the Red card was on the Northgate Player that tried to get GAC players away from her downed teammate. She shoved the GAC girl because the GAC girl was kicking at the downed Northgate player on the ground though the referee did not see this as it was opposite side of the body. They gave the Northgate player a red card (which I can understand) but only gave the girl kicking the Northgate player a Yellow and that was only after complaints by several Northgate players telling the referee what the girl was doing. I'm curious on some other referee's takes here on what they would do. I was always taught that you should be equitable on cards if two people are involved unless one is just completely over the top worse than the other. Doing anything otherwise jeopardizes control of the game. In my opinion and if I was refereeing this game, they both would have gotten either reds or both gotten yellows, but I would never do a red/yellow like that as it introduces the appearance of a bias in the game and makes it difficult to control the game later on.

I'm not a ref but I wouldn't have given anyone a red after that. - Yellow to the Northgate girl that yanked the GAC girl down initially in what essentially became a chokehold. - Yellow for the GAC girl who came in & stood over & appeared to yell at the Northgate girl on the ground (and if you are trying to say she was "kicking" the girl on the ground, you and I have very different definitions of "kicking"- that wasn't a kick, her legs might have made slight contact with the girl on the ground, but she wasn't kicking her by any stretch). - Yellow for the Northgate girl that came running in & shoved the GAC girl away. - Nothing for the GAC girl that got yanked down initially, I thought she actually handled the situation well. Tell everyone to cool it and any further rough play is more yellows/reds.

It was clear the girl that shoved the GAC player thought that was what was happening though, and there was no doubt the girls was likely glaring and said something smart to the girl on the ground. I was relayed this information from people at the game that witnessed it. I didn't think anything in there was a red. I agree with your assessment. I was giving the referee that handed the Red out the benefit of the doubt as I was not there, but I don't think handing the Red there with everything else was Yellow was an equal penalty, and I didn't see anything that was excessive to warrant a Red while everything else was a yellow.

Handful of yellows would have worked fine. Only potential red was the girl doing the original takedown, but that would be a stretch and contingent upon what shenanigans she had already pulled. I'm old school - red cards are for clear punches or kicks to the face... And I'm still reffing this week...

Only seeing this one video clip, I agree with the above opinion. What we cannot see is any prior issues with any of these players, cannot hear what is being said, nor can we grasp the temperature of the match simply by watching this clip. Something else may have warranted a red card, however what I see in this clip does not appear to be deserving of a red card.

Where do they post the all-region selections? Anyone have the answer? I see random post from schools in various regions/classifications but is there anywhere to see all the selections?

Where do they post the all-region selections? Anyone have the answer? I see random post from schools in various regions/classifications but is there anywhere to see all the selections? From what I can tell each region just manages it on their own and plays by their own rules. It's not an official GHSA thing. Some regions do two teams and honorable mentions, some only one team. Some regions do 20-30 names, some more like a true best 11. In our region, I believe coaches nominate players from their own team and then all the coaches in the region vote from that list. Final list is passed down to the teams in the region. Then it's up to schools to post. Not a super formal process. So I guess your coach should know.

In 7A, it looks like Forsyth Central and Denmark might be on a collision course in the final. Of course, both have to get through their final four matchups first. Central probably has their toughest game of the season playing Walton. I don't know much about Campbell. Will be curious to see how those games play out. Campbell's team has talent, not to be overlooked. Coach is classless and leaves you disgusted just watching him coach which does take away from some real talent on that team.

Roswell beat Pope 4-0, Marist beat Lassister I think 2-0. I think Marist beats Roswell. Should be a good game, albeit Marist looks skilled on the ball. Lassiter played abusive, garnering several yellow cards. Ref chose to "let 'em play" and not be an influence on the game. Unfortunately, as time clicked away, Lassiter got more and more desperate, making hard plays on the body with no shot on the ball. In 5A, Chamblee looks slick. Their passing is sublime. Midtown did their darndest to stay with them. Fun to see both reported national powerhouses in Marist and Chamblee less than two miles from each other. Great testament to strong Atlanta (and Georgia) soccer.

No one from top tier. Ties against Mill Creek and Hillgrove and wins over Archer, Holy Innocents, Cherokee Bluff and Pace Academy would be the primary accomplishments. As well as only 2 goals allowed in 20 games (one was an own goal against Mill Creek).

It's unfortunate to hear that the referee lost control of the game and that there were a lot of fouls. A game that is not well-managed by the referee can quickly become chaotic and dangerous for the players, and it's important for the safety of everyone involved that the referee is able to maintain control of the game.
Regarding the coach receiving a red card, the specific rules and consequences will depend on the league or association governing the game. In some cases, a coach receiving a red card may be required to leave the field or be suspended for a certain number of games. It's best to check with the league or association to understand the specific rules and consequences in this situation.
Regarding the Westminster keeper being out, this could certainly cause issues for the team. The goalkeeper is a critical position on the field, and a replacement goalkeeper may not have the same level of experience or skill as the regular starter. However, teams are usually prepared for the possibility of injuries or other absences, and it's possible that Westminster has a capable backup goalkeeper who can step in and perform well in the final.

Not sure if it matters that the RC was for 2 cautions and one of those was a bench caution for her assistant catching a ball that wasn’t quite out of bounds. Stupid HS rules. Her first YC was also for being outside the bench area - without a warning. Sounds harsh, like poor management by the ref. And I’m a ref. I’m also biased because Sharon has coached a generation of girls in north suburbs and done it very well. So I hate for her to have to miss a state championship.

Two clear hard fouls against Westminster not called between 18 and 13 minutes remaining. Coach incensed and gets a yellow. CR was lackadaisical and communicated poorly. Either had a really bad night or was assigned above his ability. Disservice to the players. Never like it when the referee crew takes the field before the teams introductions. Stay out of the spotlight, it's not about you. For reference, I worked two quarters and two semis last week.

The tackle from behind that injured a Westminster player was one of the worst non-calls I have ever seen (and the ref was right next to it). I think he was rattled. Unfortunately, I've seen him before and this wasn't an anomaly. I think the coach does have to sit out, which is a really harsh penalty especially given how the second yellow happened (the ball was clearly going out - or was already over the line before an assistant made a reflex grab for it). Given the actual violence in the game it's unbelievable that's the thing that impacts the Finals. Anyway, it will be fun to see if Westminster can unlock the N Oconee defense. They have a couple of very special players on the attack and good depth upfront overall. Didn't realize N.O. has only given up 2 goals all year. Impressive. Also agree the Westminster GK would make a difference. (And thank you for your service!)

I will also Second the fact the Sharon is an amazing Coach with over 30 years of HS experience. I didn’t see the game, but if she got a RC it was because the reffing sucked and her team was at risk of getting hurt. If my daughter could’ve played for her for every club and HS season, I would have gladly signed up for that!!

Way to stay classy and gracious in a loss, coach of Holy Innocents:
Congrats to the Holy Innocents' girls on a great season! His depiction of HI controlling the game is nonsense. Both teams had to deal with the weather/field conditions and the center ref called a pretty good game.
But here's to you, coach who makes excuses and doesn't give credit where credit is due. THIS Bud's for YOU! Not the first mention I've seen of North's "small" field, which is 10 yards shorter than a football stadium field but 6 yards wider than most. The North seniors never lost a home game, while compiling a 60-2-3 overall record.

The play where the WM player got injured was an absolutely textbook slide tackle which got nothing but ball (video shows it clearly). The WM girl hit the ground hard with her head due to physics. Very unfortunate for her, and I really hope she is good to go this week. But CR was right on top of it and in a much better position to judge than anyone else.

Anyone commenting on the Westminster/Lovett game clearly hasnt seen the video of the coach coming onto the field to bat the ball down. she literally steps on the field. and the shock by the other westminster coaches is a clear indication of guilt. the only thing worse was the coach pumping up the crowd after getting kicked out of the game for cheating. not the finest moment for the coach - and certainly one she should regret yes, the CR was terrible - but was equally terrible on both sides -

Yes, clearly not a slide tackle from behind. Perfect form. HAHAHAHAHA. Note that the Westminster player's legs shot to the right and she fell to the left. As for the second yellow to the coach, no one said (at least I didn't) that it wasn't the right call by the book. Just that the penalty is pretty harsh given the actual nonsense that was happening uncalled on the field and the fact that it was an assistant who actually committed the infraction. I do agree that the CR was bad both ways.
