Agree totally. Great experience for the boys. It is going to be a top facility when completed.

There are many DA quality level players who won't even consider trying out for DA. They want the option of playing high school soccer. Although in some instances the play level not be even C2 level there is more to it. There is the important social aspect and they can play with their friends. ODP provides the alternative training possibility but allows high school soccer as well. That is why ODP will continue. It's also why ECNL and the new boys league has emerged with a strong Georgia presence.

Our experience has been very positive. I agree with the coach. RYSA is a challenge on Friday nights just like AU fields will be for players who now benefit from current location. Good program overall for players.

We forget that in most of these cases, soccer is the main or only sport played by youth. It is also the sport most valued in their society. In the US, basketball, football, baseball, track, etc. are valued more. Many good athletes are in other sports and never play soccer.

Our player is playing high school soccer. Pros? Cons? Overall thoughts?

Kid enjoyed experience. Good competition. Being from Metro and playing R3pl, we see that competition level often. I am neutral on whether cost is worth it as our team played a team we had played in the fall and others were in other pools. Having to use one travel company also makes me question this.

Most colleges want non weighted GPAs. They also want to see a transcript that has advanced coursework like AP. This indicates the student has the ability and drive to succeed at the college level. Agree with other respondent, SAT and ACT scores are important. Colleges can supplement soccer monies with academic monies.

Go investigate the other MLS teams. I can't remember which team but one MLS team finally had their first home grown player make the team in the history of the team and they were a founding club. The MLS teams sign players to sell jerseys. AU will be no different. They are already looking to see which older European players near retirement will be available.

This league will give players who want to play high school a high level playing option. DA doesn't allow players to play high school. Our player said no to DA because they don't allow high school play. He wanted to play with his friends and we support that decision. This may force DA to reconsider this policy.

Communication may be an issue but when games were arranged agreed to then cancelled by a team not once but two times the league should have stepped in and assessed a forfeit. Instead it's now on the teams to agree so now multiple sites on multiple weekends in different states rather than the benefit of playing 2 or 3 in one location. That's a league issue too.

If you review the original posting, it is clear the offensive play is offside and the flag should have been raised. No other players around. No excuse AR missed it. It is what it is. Hopefully the AR learned from this and won't make this mistake again IMO.

If the referees are not there to protect players then why give cards to players for dangerous play? Your comment makes no sense.

Georgia High School allows 8th graders to play JV in the spring. Whether they are allowed to is determined by the County school system. If enough parents complained you may get it changed. GHSA can't change the practice.

Just curious. We did as most seem to...we left a small club for one of the larger Atlanta area clubs. Our child was very competitive at the small club team wise and made the top team at their new club and now playing a region schedule. Does this happen to most small clubs around U12 to U14? How can small clubs continue to lose the talent they develop and be a relevant club in Georgia soccer?
I look forward to everyone's thoughts.

Soccer is all about business starting with club. The large clubs have 4 or 5 teams in each age with each player paying $1500 each. That pays club fees and coaches. Many of those clubs pay coaches to hold camps funded by players parents. Some coaches are involved in ODP where they are paid. Clubs rent fields for ODP training. I could go on but you get the picture. ECNL ODP etc costs upwards of $5000 to $10000 per year or more if you consider travel meals hotel etc. If you pay that fee for 4 or 5 years that comes to $25000 to $50000 total. That also does not take into consideration any negative effects on student academics. If your looking for college scholarships you may want to focus on academics as a college will have 40 plus players sharing 18 scholarships. Few get full academic scholarships. Good luck.
