Last year at CF DA tryouts I was conveniently told by multiple coaches that my son was on the bubble for one of the few remaining spots. The very last day it was between him and another kid for the last position. The other kid did make the team and they placed my kid on a team two levels lower. Dirty thing holding kids hostage, I refused and moved him.
My other kid was told he would DP and he only practiced a couple of times but never played.
There is a fine line between quibbling and flat out lying.

My son was at the CF 01 ECNL/DA tryout all 3 days. He had a great time with lots of interaction with the coaches. For those dissenters out there, he is not a star player just loves to be playing. Obviously any club your child attends is going to have core players they know. It would be great if wvery player could be truly evaluated but there just is not enough time for the coaches to realistically see every player. If your player wants to be on a certain team or level, my advice is to think ahead to where that will be next year, play at that club this year and become known. Next year your player will have a much better chance of being watched,or placed in a higher group for consideration. Trying to get recognized in a 2-3 day window is just not realistic. No matter how hard they try, coaches are not all-seeing.
I hope they didn't hose your kid and put him on a classic 3 team!
And for the 03 and older ages, the coaches already know the top players in the state. They have usually coached them or against them for years.

I've been watching this little man play since he was 8 years old. My son has played against and with him since this time and he's a nice kid.
I've seen better soccer players, but Simon Carlson knows how to find the back of the NET!!! He can Score, he's tricky, and he's always in the right spot. Kudo's to you young man, you deserve this and I hope you go show the National Team coaches what you are capable of doing. Godspeed Simon!!!

Futsal Gawdess you should market yourself as an expert consultant for club soccer. Bringing Real Ideas to the MASL and the DOCs around the state. Making it simple for everyone to understand!
Or write a pamphlet explaining "All things Club" for the parents.

I know those SRPL boys from Concorde and that group has some talent. I do know a little fact from a player (2yrs ago) on that team who is a baller and has a motor that never quits. He attended DA/RPL tryouts and did well, not enough to make DA but definitely RPL, and they offered him a classic 3 spot. I don't know what his parents did to piss off KK and GB but he left to play at a top team at a small club.
I hope CF didn't hose him again. He is a very good player and his parents are super cool.
GodSpeed to those boys, they are a good group of young men.

From the horses mouth at Concorde, we are a Destination club not a Development club!!
I know two of the 01 girls (CF) who are constantly being pulled into the National Team Camps and they have played their entire time at CF. These girls have been getting outside training since they were 10/11 yrs old and have worked their butts off to be where they are. Congrats to both of them for following their dreams all the way to ND.
Concorde Does have some very good coaches, 3 just left from North, that coach and teach the right way. The only coach that I know teaches Boom Ball is GB, he only believes in kicking the ball forward and not playing back, which baffles me but that's his style.

CF is special in so many ways:
1. Worst tryouts of any club I've ever witnessed. After 20 mins, separate their former top teams from other players without even looking or watching the "other players". They may leave a rookie coach to observe these new players.
2. Coaches behave like pompous arses!
3. I've never seen a coaches list presented before tryouts and rarely after.
4. Dishonesty throughout the entire process, they want to keep your kid all 3 days to make sure he stays with them so they can pocket your money.
I'll stop there, because when you're the Big Dog, you can do what you want and droves of parents keep showing up.

I've seen a lot of kids from the streets that could ball, picked up by a club and get a free ride. Some people get angry at this but I think it's great for the kid from a soccer standpoint because he will get to play at a high level, without the additional financial strain on his family.
I remember when a Particular coach got extremely upset with BK recruiting these boys from Soccer in the Streets to play for him. The Particular coach was upset because he believed these kids should be focusing on adjusting to Life in America and focusing on grades and school because soccer would end when they aged out. If they didn't focus on their studies now, they may not graduate from HS and have the opportunity to attend college, trade schools. etc

Atlanta is loaded with quality soccer players. You take a good solid player out of the line up and put a player in not up to par and a good opposing team will load that side, causing a drastic effect which can easily lead to a loss. I've seen it happen too many times, and good bad or indifferent, I applaud coaches that test their subs and place them in game situations when there play determines the outcome. I also tug my hair knowing that my kid's team just lost the game.
These lessons will travel with these boys for a lifetime.
It's soccer and it's beautiful!!

Lot of young national team players come out of Atlanta, How many players on the Older National Team?
Next two years will be a key indicator, 16/17 another big growth spurt for players. You never know what fruit will be in the basket.

Game Changers****** I've been coaching, and parenting soccer players for 20 years, I've only seen a few game changers and I can count them on one hand. I've seen some really Great solid soccer players, but Game changers, come on, Dominating at low levels of soccer don't make anyone a game changer. DV,AC of KSA,AU only game changers for those 00,01 age groups. Haven't seen one for 98-99 or 2002-2006 and I have 4 kids in the mix.

A good coach (master gardener) can't turn a Tulip into a rose. He can make it a healthy Tulip, but it's still not a rose.
Coaches are important below u14, after that, you're kid has to play the highest level he/she can to become better and grow as a player. A great coach at u14, and kid playing in Classic 3 with other Classic 3 players may improve but will never reach her/his potential unless they are challenged by other Great players. Playing with the best will challenge you more than a coach will at upper levels.
Also, all great players have outside trainers to offset coaches.

A lot of former and current DA boys are skipping DA tryouts this year. Some are tired of the 4 nights of practice and hassle of travel and playing or travel and not playing. Some kids want to enjoy the kickball HS season with their friends. Some see how few college scholarship offers are given to the U19's and question whether it is worth it.

Honesty doesn't work at tryouts. You have to work the system!
The theme now is to have kids attend 3 nights of tryouts, 90% of the clubs preach it, but they want your kids there to keep the money in house, no need to go to another casino when you can lose that money here.
It's tough, I dread these two weeks more than any because promises have been made to kids, or lies whatever you want to call it, and they have a direct impact on your kids future and his overall spirit.
Be honest with your kid on his current level of play, Talk with his coach or potential coach and let him know your thoughts and expectations. Work with the info you have and choose accordingly.

Can we have details without mentioning a minors, age, race or gender.
If it's that bad from a club standpoint, parents need basic info.

Young parents!!!! Attend tryouts, talk with coaches, most of them are dumb as a box of rocks. You have to lobby for your kid and discuss where they are on the coaches horizon or bubble. This discussion lets you know whether to stay put or go somewhere else.
Offers are extended weeks before tryouts, so this 2nd night offer is BS, is a load of crap. Know where you stand before tryouts with your coach and do whats best for your kid because believe me, clubs have no loyalty and never will because its a win-win scenario.

CF is the master of holding kids hostage, letting parents know their kid is on the bubble for a top team and then get offered a 3rd or 4th team spot. This is whats wrong with some of these clubs.
Be honest, be upfront, talk with the coach and let him know what you're plan. If he's a tool, you have your answer and find another club.

Yes, Doesn't have his 2013/14 or 2014/15 years at DA. No GU 16/17 games played either and he played many. My son trained with him many times at GU DA
UFA00 - only 3 paying players
I'm not bashing UFA, every club has done it, will do it and its called Youth Soccer.

If you play more games with a DA team than your regular team, and only show up at state cup. Seriously, an no worries the kid who left the team is doing just fine, and they're were only 3 paying players on the team : )
It's competitive soccer and no one is mad, it's just the way it is.
gawdess; Before DA, u12 were still playing the other 6 top clubs also : )

Sorry Soccermom, he may of played for Gaucho first and then was playing for Georgia United. He was then brought back to UFA to win the national championship. I know the players on the team and friends with the player who was left off so Carleton could rejoin the team.

It's sad with the level of play at state cup because of all the many divisions of multiple ages and genders with DA, ECNL. State Cup use to be the best of the best and the competition was extraordinary. Those teams fought for earning the right to represent their state to earn a spot so they possibly could win a national championship. Except for a few incredible teams, the level of play is sub-standard.
There are some diamonds on the field, and easy to spot but not many teams with 11 stellar players playing the beautiful game. Some games I think they should put out bases, the kids would understand that more.
Shame on Georgia soccer and all the clubs for letting this happen.
