Any feedback on the girls UFA DA ID session last night? Curious how the turnout was from within and outside the club?

Now that NTH is not having ECNL next year, is there any word on what the 07 Girls top teams are doing next year? We have 07 friends at NTH and it’s the following for next year from what they said: Pre-Da DPL SCCL SCCL-P Athena

You mentioned the player is a current U11? If the parents want to know playing style, the current Central U11 top team plays "boom ball". They have a very good GK who punts past midfield every time & all goal kicks are drilled past midfield every time. They win a lot. Second team plays this way as well. Different coach for the top team than second team. Top team coach is a yeller. Not sure if he's with the 2008s next year. The girl is a 2009 (upcoming u11). Not sure who has that team(s) for CF Central. Friends kid plays up an age group out of Vestivia Hills in Birmingham.

Depends on what age and what level their kids currently or potentially want to play, DA, ECNL, SCCL, girls/boys, etc.? Plus, until the official coaching projections come out, it's hard to give a good synopsis of coaching philosophy, where they train. But as with all clubs, there are good, there are bad and there are the ones that good/bad may not be suited for a particular player/kid... They are u11 girls Academy. We only had experience with TH North years ago so didnt have much to provide them. The CF Academy teams are always competitive but dont know much about training styles, any of their coaches, etc.

This really only affects the second teams at Tophat (SCCL 2006 and ECNL 2005-above). What do they do? Sometimes it seems harder to jump around than to stay put during change. Do they risk trying to find a spot on a DA/ECNL team at another club? Do any current ECNL (SCCL 06) girls get a real look at DA now that ECNL has gone away? I think thats the real question. It affects more than just those teams. Those players will disburse to other clubs - especially the ones in High School who may already be getting looks. How many kids lose their current ECNL spots at Concorde, AFU, GSA to TH players? How many kids will get dropped by coaches they are currently talking to when they go from ECNL to SCCL or whatever other combination of letters you can string together? In many instances, college coaches will not know what has happened in the ATL competitive soccer market and see that as a negative. It's a snowball effect. True, it reminds of last year when CF North blew up and a ton of their players went to NTH or UFA. Shoved a lot of talented girls down a level of play.

Specifically? I saw no scores posted? ECNL girls are at a showcase this weekend. Boys are done until March as are girls except for a make up weekend here or there due to make ups. We have friends on NTH 2006G SCCL team and they beat 3 ECNL teams and a UFA NPL this weekend at CF tourney. They also beat an ECNL team in DC at WAGs. Are the ECNL teams they beat top of the tables? No? But shows that at least at that age group, letters dont indicate who the better team is. May be different at different age groups.

I'd love folks opinions on the Academy age (u12 and under) and whats more important in development....technical skill or tactical style (typically each club has their own style of play)? Whats harder for a player to develop?
And say a child is excellent at one of those traits, can they be taught the other without sacrificing what they excel at?
Example: taking a fantastic tactical/possession style player and putting them into a style that wants to attack/1v1/play long balls. Or putting an technically savvy attacking player into possession style.
Do they lose what they are good at trying to adapt?
Just curious to hear folks opinions.

Not that I'm an authority, but regardless of "money grab" or not... for boys and girls... $300 for 8- 90min sessions with what should be high-level coaches. That's a good deal for supplemental winter training. (About $25/hr for high-level training with a high-level pool.) You do make a good point, and for the most part I do agree that it is a good value. However, that is assuming that because you coach at AU you are a de-facto high level trainer or coach. Take RD at UFA, I would put his level of success against any coach in the area, including AU. Currently, I would take him over any of the other U17/U19 coaches. The fact of the matter is it all depends on what your goals are and your location and the resources there. I would not drive from AFC or an LSA or even a UFA to come all the way to Marietta for training on a Friday nite. Instead, I would find a local coach with whom my daughter could train with once or twice a week. In addition, he/she would be able to mold the training towards fixing the shortcomings my daughter has. At organized training sessions like the ones at AU it is more of a goal/topic based training. On the issue of girls, IMO, I just don't see the end game, since AU currently doesn't have a girls program. I know that TA is not a fan of the girls program since he doesn't believe his style of coaching would gel with girls. Has been that way since he was at UFA. Unless AU is looking to get a girls program, hmmm, would it be GDA or maybe ECNL 🤫⚽🤫 That's where I am at....what's the end game? If its just supplemental training for local clubs winter programs, OK. But if its the beginning of something else, that's different. My kids club offers winter training and its historically good. So I struggle to say OK to paying $300 more dollars this winter for additional training if girls are their target audience in the bigger picture.

They are offering RDS tryouts 12/7/18. You can find info under AtlUld Academy training. This will be for boys and girls. Yea, that is where my questions stemmed from. What is the difference between clinics they've had before for girls (striker/keeper) and this RDS? Does it give them access to better coaching? With no girls program at Atlanta United, I am tempted to write it off as a money grab that is appeasing parents. But dont know as we've never seen or participated in any of the Atlanta United clinics.

We were in the same boat this year. Child feels loyalty to club, got offered to play at one level. Two clubs offered spot at a higher level, which is where they eventually want to play. But they want to get to that level within the existing club.
PLUS, the existing club didnt give much time to think over offer.
Next year we'll be better educated and jump if its the same (lower level/existing club vs higher level/new club)

I was told that with SSA getting ECNL (second CF spot), their SCCL team would be their 3rd team? Hopefully thats not right. Which age group are you referring to? I think there is only 1 CF ECNL for the '06 Girls. The '05 SSA team is the one I heard was taking the 2nd spot for CF ECNL ... Although I could be wrong.
I was told the 2006 SSA girls were getting ECNL.

Could someone educate me what FT and DP mean next to players names on DA rosters? It looks like players with DP next to their name only play a few games where as FT play majority. The FT is a full time player on a DA team. The DP is a Developmental Player. He or she can play in up to 6 games. You tend to see them more in the Spring but can play in the Fall also. They have to be within the structure of the DA club. So to use UFA as an example, that player can currently be rostered on the NPL/SCCL/Classic/Athena teams. The are many reasons for rostering a player as a DP. Maybe during tryouts, the club was looking to take 20 boys and the DP would have been the 21st. You're giving the player a chance to get high level games and training. Talking about training, a player within your club can always train with the DA team. It helps to elevate your game. Usually, you will split time between your team and the DA training days(2/2). If your a player that joined the club after the tryouts, or if you were unsure of DA level of play, this is an opportunity to dip your toe in the water before fully committing. In my opinion, if you're younger or you're a player on the bubble, this is a great opportunity to get first hand experience playing at the highest level and using it as a way to determine what you would have to do to ensure you make a DA team if that is the route you want to take. Also, it's a great money saver, because if memory serves me right, until you're rostered you tantamount to a "Guest Player" so are exempt from all fees for DA. You're still responsible for the fees for your own team though. Are clubs pretty transparent with this or is this stuff you need to ask/clarify? For the backup player or kid at a loaded position, DP seems like best of both worlds in training and playing time. Guess it depends on what that other level is that they are getting the consistent PT?

DPs can play in a maximum of 6 games, and after that a decision would need to be made to roster the player, otherwise the player cannot play in any more games during the season or playoffs/showcases etc. So what is the benefit of this? Perhaps getting a look at a younger player in a combo age group? Giving a second string keeper or striker playing time at a lower level but letting them practice with DA group?

DP is designated player. They play on another team and guest play for DA. FT is full time. Their home base team is DA. They play there only. So where or what levels would a DP player play? ECNL? NPL? Sorry for the ignorant questions, just learning as I go in this new non Academy world.

Thinking about this whole mess a bit more... what does a new location buy NTH? There's no additional DA, ENCL or SCCL team slots to go around and it's not like any of those will be at thre new location. So its simply more teams that have a glass ceiling in classic/athena...no additional prestige. I don't get it really. NTH Milton will have SCCL So both Buckhead and Milton will have SCCL teams? Or NTH moves the SCCL team to Milton?

For all of you that have changed clubs, how do you know it was the right time or decision? I read and hear about parents/kids jumping club to club just to chase bigger or better things. But I am sure there are times when its warranted and needed. What were the signs or the point where you thought you needed to go somewhere else?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

How often does your coach email/talk/update you on your child's development without you having to provoke the conversation? How often does your kids school/individual teachers update you on your child's academic growth and achievements or deficiencies? Coach never does and its quite disappointing. But could be just a disadvantage of being at a large club. Still frustrating to say the least. Teacher does on a regular basis and historically they have at our schools.

Heard good things and seen the results of the GK coaching at GSA, other than that I would connect with one of the clubs that is tied in to the Atlanta United club Goalkeeping clinics. Free training. Thanks. I should have prefaced above that my kid is a girl.

ODP ?

My U11 was included in a group that was invited to train with a GA Soccer coach recently with the idea it could lead to invitation for Pre-ODP camp this summer. I am uneducated about ODP but if they are not invited to the camp this summer, does this affect their ability to tryout in the fall? Or does the camp just give kids a leg up at tryouts? Any information would be appreciated.

Strikeorkeep, unfortunately in our experience that has been the case at 2 different clubs now. At the previous club, it was very frustrating how obvious the difference in treatment for the boys on the lower team-less attention given during training; more players grouped together with the lower team during training, which usually meant a player sitting out waiting for their turn to join a drill; fewer games; larger rosters during games meaning less playing time; an overall lower expectation of the players, not pushing them to do more; I really could go on and on. It was very frustrating, because as you said, the most important thing for younger players is to get quality coaching, and develop their skills. It almost becomes a self fulfilling prophesy -everyone thinks certain players are the best at that age, so they get the best/most of everthing which of course continues to make them better. It is ideal for those players, but what about the others? All players should be encouraged to grow wherever they are developmentally, regardless of what their ceiling is. We were forced to change clubs due to the age mandate, and some of these things have improved for his age group (U12) because they are the only team and don't have a full roster, but I see similar trends with the U11 boys. An unfortunate side effect of this mentality is that even parents and other players start to notice and treat the "lower" players poorly. It can really become a toxic environment. I hope you are able to find a healthy environment for your player-over time, these issues can start to effect the way they feel about the game, and whether they want to continue or not. Which to me is so sad. Thanks for your feedback. You are dead on about the self fullfilling prophecy as I am watching it before my own eyes. Thus having to go outside the club for private coaching so my kid can keep up. Our B team is very competitive (which is great) as we play top teams from other clubs successfully but the development on the team concept (possession, playing to feet, play the way you face) hasn't been there since fall. And to Soccerhouse point above, our coach has other team commitments that take precedent over our team. Just wish the club would plan accordingly to offset sometimes 3 out of 4 Academy coaches missing practice. Just dont know if it would be any better (or worse) if we were to move clubs.

The pressure on a kid is definitely less on a 2nd team at the younger ages and they have more freedom to explore and be creative without the fear of losing. I've even heard coaches make comments to parents and kids about "now that they are on the top team, expectations are higher and the pressure to perform is greater" --- this was to rising u9s......... No reason this is the case ---- given at the younger age groups these games are literally just friendlies every weekend. Believe me, like the idea of lower pressure but just curious if its similar at other clubs where all the coaching gets poured into the top team in terms of development/advancement? What team right now in Academy isn't the end game, its getting better, develop as a player, having fun, and get challenged IMO. And some of those are not being met. Starts to open up the question of changing clubs if its not like this everywhere.
